Decorating the Roof for the Holidays

A great way to celebrate the holidays is to decorate your yard and house with bright lights and inflatable snowmen. Many people dream of putting up lights on their roof but want to make sure they won’t fall off. Integrity Roofing and Exteriors has some tips to make sure you put up your decorations safely.

Lights

Before you head up on the roof, check to see that all the lights are designed to be for the outdoors and that they all light up. You won’t want to look for the broken bulb while you are on the roof. Check the cords to your light too to ensure that they will work properly all season long.

Preparation

Check your ladder for safety and length. Make sure it can reach your roof and that there isn’t too much wear. Get hooks to install your lights. Stay away from nails or staples that could damage your roof. Clear your roof of any leaves. Leaves can start a fire when next to hot lights. Wait for the right weather to install your holiday lights. A sunny, dry day is best. Lastly, make sure your roof has been inspected recently. Integrity Roofing and Exteriors can give you a roof inspection if you live in Southern Illinois! Give us a call at 888-879-5910 for an inspection.

Decorating

When installing your lights, double check that they are in the hooks properly and that they will not come loose. Get a timer for your lights so that they turn off while you are asleep in bed. This is also a great idea to save on the electric bill. When it’s time to take down the lights make sure the weather is good and that your ladder is still safe.
